Our first focus though will be building relationships with our students and supporting the social and emotional skills needed to function well in the world. Classroom teachers will meet students where they are because we know everyone is learning at a different level right now. Intervention to help students who are struggling will be provided later. Our teachers will be focusing on the most important SOL standards and skills for our students. We also recognize that many of you are worried about your child being behind with instruction. Students will be given assignments to complete on the days they are not at school.

Wednesdays will be used for parent contact, planning, and professional learning for staff members. Students with last names beginning with L-Z will attend Thursday and Friday. Students with last names beginning with A-K will attend Monday and Tuesday. Students will be divided into two groups. These students have been identified and teachers will let parents know if their child is in cohort 1. Cohort 1 are students who are in self-contained special education classes. When we begin the hybrid model, students will attend two days a week and the virtual instruction will end for that cohort. We want to make sure you understand that instruction will occur from 8:30-1:00 each day virtually. What we are about to do has never been done this way and there will be hiccups and snafus, but we are there to get through it with you. Please give yourself, students, and teachers grace as we begin this year. Hopefully, that will be soon! Until then, we are ready to start off the 2020-2021 school year with a focus on building relationships, positivity, and a can do attitude. A positive attitude from parents, caregivers, family members, and teaching staff will help make this a great year! We know it feels a bit unsettling and we all want our students with us when we are allowed. The virtual setting provides opportunities for us to educate our students in a different way.
